Book Bags and Buckets

Tonight we made book bags for the Orem Summer Reading Program and a payback for an Eagle Scout project. May our buckets runneth over tonight.

Kellene's Unnamed Asian Quilt

We've made a series of Asian-themed quilts that have turned out stunning. Sandy Rindlesbach designed the basic pattern and the two of them fussy cut each piece to make each frame dramatic. The rich golds and peach colors run throughout the quilt.

The top and bottom borders frame it beautifully. I'll post a photo of the final quilt once it is quilted.

Kirsten's second quilt is made from lots of different complementary rectangle fabrics. She cut them at 4 inches by 7 inches and offset each column.
It's slightly larger than a Queen top.

Ky's Quilt

Kylie wanted an extra long quilt that two tall people could use. She followed a pattern and added an additional row to it, which gave it the length she wanted.
She chose great complementary fabrics

Her work in progress.

she spent hours choosing the fabric, cutting and designing each square exactly how she wanted it.

Creating Lindsay's Quilt

We make a quilt a month and in between sewing, eating and drinking a little,

we manage to talk a lot about life. The quilts are just a byproduct of our relationships.

This quilt is Lindsay's and shows how we get around to the design.

Deciding the best placement takes some throughtful discussion and moving your blocks around on the canvas. We use the floor because we have a big area that works well for full size quilts.

Move them around as needed

Look at it again and again.

Take a step back and admire and move.

And eventually you'll get a nearly finished top.

Crazy Blue for You

Crazy Blue for You is a gift to a friend who faced the scary nights of cancer.

It is a loose crazy quilt made from random sizes of blue and brown.

It is a Queen bed top size and is pieced on the backing.

Porches

I saw a simlified version of something similar to this house creation in a magazine and thought it might be fun to make.
And what do you know, it really was.
Just rip, snip, and secure each random piece of fabric then freehand sew everything in place.
Hardware from my grandpa's toolbox made the doorknob and flowerpot a little sentimental. And a heart-shaped button adds a little love to the eaves.
I added house numbers above the door, then a little saying that popped into my head
Without love on the inside, it's just a bunch of numbers on the outside.
And finished it with matching binding and framed it behind glass.
